Richard Perry passes away at 82, claims report
Richard Perry passed away at the age of 82 on December 24, 2024, at a hospital in Los Angeles.
According to Daphna Kastner Keitel, Richard Perry’s friend, it was cardiac arrest that led to his passing. She shared this information with The New York Times.
Perry left behind three brothers: Roger, Fred, and Andrew. Throughout his life, he married twice – first to Linda Goldner and later to Rebecca Broussard. Additionally, he had a long-term relationship with Jane Fonda from 2009 to 2017, and was also romantically linked with Elizabeth Taylor.
Richard Perry kicked off his music career in the 1960s after completing his studies at the University of Michigan. His initial foray into the industry was producing “Safe as Milk” with Bob Krasnow for Buddah Records. Later, he moved to Warner Bros. Records as a producer, overseeing the production of multiple albums such as Fats Domino’s “Fats Is Back” and Ella Fitzgerald’s “Ella.
Afterward, he produced the initial album of Tiny Tim titled “God Bless Tiny Tim.” Later on, he collaborated with well-known figures such as Barbra Streisand, Harry Nilsson, and Ringo Starr, overseeing their projects Stoney End, Nilsson Schmilsson, Ringo, and Goodnight Vienna.
In later years, he collaborated with Ray Charles on the album “My World” (1993) and Rod Stewart on his “The Great American Songbook” collection.
In 1978, Perry established Planet Records, welcoming acts such as the Pointer Sisters, Single Bullet Theory, Full Swing, American Noise, and Bill Medley into its fold. Five years down the line, he parted ways with Planet Records by selling it to RCA in 1983.
Although Richard Perry didn’t take home a Grammy, he received seven nominations for his work. In 2015, the Recording Academy bestowed upon him the prestigious Trustees Award.
