Rich Dauer passes away at 72, claims report
The announcement of Rich Dauer’s death was made by his friend and former teammate Jim Palmer.
On Monday, Palmer, a former pitcher for the Orioles and fellow Hall of Famer, announced on X (previously Twitter) that his longtime teammate Richie Dauer had passed away. In his post, Palmer wrote, “Richie was a significant part of the ‘Oriole way,’ where you didn’t have to be a star to contribute to the Orioles’ victories.” Unfortunately, Palmer did not provide any details about the cause of Dauer’s death.
Jim Palmer characterized Dauer as having a “contagious charm” and being “dedicated.” In his conversation with The Baltimore Banner, the ex-pitcher emphasized that Dauer was admired by all members of the Orioles team. He also mentioned that they would miss him due to his lively and spirited demeanor.
Rich Dauer played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1976 to 1985, which was a decade-long tenure. During this time, he managed to hit 43 home runs and swipe 6 bases on stolen attempts. Subsequently, in 2015, he served as the first base coach for the Houston Astros until 2017.
