What Happened to R Kelly? Hospitalization Reports Explained

It’s been reported that the disgraced R&B artist, R Kelly, was recently hospitalized. His legal team claims this is because of an alleged overdose they attribute to poor management by prison officials. Yet, contradictory reports point towards a different cause. So, we’re left wondering, what exactly transpired with R Kelly?

R Kelly rushed to hospital for overdose, claims report

As a devoted fan, I’m deeply concerned about R. Kelly’s situation. His lawyer, Beau Brindley, claims that the singer has been given an alarmingly high dose of medication by staff at the federal prison in North Carolina where he is currently serving a 30-year sentence. In a urgent motion filed on Monday, Brindley expressed his concern stating, “Mr. Kelly’s life is at risk, and the potential danger comes from officers within the Bureau of Prisons who are supposed to safeguard him.

According to documents acquired by CBS News, Brindley asserted that Kelly received a potentially lethal dose of medication, causing him to become dizzy, lose consciousness, and require an immediate trip to the hospital.

Instead, Sources informed ABC News that Kelly spent just two days in the hospital for routine medical care, after which he was sent back to prison. The Bureau of Prisons chose not to disclose details about the matter due to privacy and safety regulations.

Kelly’s lawyers have charged that prison authorities put his life at risk by forcing him out of Duke University Hospital despite medical advice. They claim he was diagnosed with blood clots in his legs and lungs, necessitating immediate surgery, which the prison staff is said to have prevented.

According to Brindley’s statement, Mr. Kelly’s life is currently at risk due to the Bureau of Prisons refusing to perform an essential lung surgery that could remove clots, potentially leading to his death from this condition. This isn’t the first time concerns have been raised about Kelly’s safety in prison; earlier this month, Brindley alleged that prison officials colluded with a white supremacist inmate to cause harm to the singer.

R. Kelly is currently serving several prison sentences due to various convictions, such as sex trafficking, racketeering, and child pornography. Despite attempts by his legal team to secure home confinement, prosecutors have deemed their request unfounded, pointing out that Kelly has yet to show remorse for his criminal actions.
