Renowned artist and tune-smith Paul Simon, in recent times, went through a surgical procedure on his back. This decision was necessitated by severe, chronic pain that forced him to cancel two scheduled concerts. The 83-year-old maestro, who is currently touring under the banner ‘A Quiet Celebration’, has shared an update on his health. He assures fans that his recovery is progressing positively and he will be back on stage soon.
Here’s essential information about his health status, surgical procedure, and anticipated comeback date on stage for fans.
Paul Simon undergoes surgery after cancelling concert
This week, Paul Simon successfully underwent back surgery and is now on the path to healing. His concerts in Philadelphia, initially planned for June 27 and 28, had to be postponed due to persistent back pain that he had been dealing with for some time.
On July 3rd, it was confirmed that Simon had a minor surgical operation to alleviate his persistent, severe back pain. According to an Instagram post from his official account, the surgery proceeded without complications, thanks to an exceptional medical team. Nevertheless, the statement also mentioned that Simon requires an extra day of rest and recovery before resuming performances.

Initially scheduled for July 7 at The Terrace Theater in Long Beach, California, Simon’s concert has been rescheduled to July 8 instead. The organizers made it clear that the tickets already purchased will still be valid for the new date and they are offering refunds for those who cannot attend on the new date.
The modification involves this: The adjustment is being made as part of an endeavor to have Simon at his best when he comes back. Included in the statement was, “We apologize for any trouble this might cause, but Paul is excited to meet everyone in Long Beach on Tuesday.” Simon’s back issues escalated significantly on June 28, leading to the sudden cancellation of his Philadelphia concerts mere hours before they were set to start. The update also expressed optimism that the surgery would allow him to finish the tour and potentially reschedule the postponed performances.
