On April 8, 2025, the landlord discovered the actor deceased in his Burbank residence, which was due for overdue rent. Sources from law enforcement stated that Katt passed away by suicide through hanging. The Medical Examiner’s report corroborated this, listing “hanging” as the cause of death and categorizing it as a suicide.

Katt’s sister explained: “He took his own life after a long struggle with depression—a fight he waged bravely but discreetly. She continued, “Mental illness is genuine, it carries great strength, and it frequently remains hidden. Nicky Katt, born in May 1970 in Acapulco, started his acting journey as a child with appearances in Fantasy Island and CHiPs. He later earned recognition for playing intense and volatile characters, such as Clint Bruno in Dazed and Confused (1993) and Harry Senate in Boston Public (2000–2004). His roles expanded to include Boiler Room, The Limey, Sin City, Insomnia, SubUrbia, School of Rock, and various other productions.
