Michael Newman passes away at 68, claims report

As a dedicated fan, I’m deeply saddened to share the heart-wrenching news that Michael Newman, once a shining star on Baywatch, left us on October 20 at the age of 68. Director Matt Felker broke the news to us, revealing that his passing was due to complications with his heart.

Felker, who collaborated with Newman on the Hulu documentary ‘After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun’, disclosed that during the series promotion, Newman opened up about his Parkinson’s diagnosis. Diagnosed in 2006, Newman expressed during the promotion that this terminal illness has provided him with ample time for reflection, which he didn’t necessarily seek, but it has granted him wisdom. He added that while his body has subtly changed over time, hardly noticeable to him, Parkinson’s has come to occupy a significant place in his life.

Discussing Michael Newman’s demise, Felker mentioned that Newman had “died with his loved ones by his side.” He further shared, “On my last visit when he was still awake, Mike, as he often did, greeted me warmly and said, ‘You arrived just in time.’

In addition to his acting career, Michael Newman served as a full-time firefighter for almost a quarter of a century before he retired. Since then, he has dedicated his later years to fundraising efforts with the Michael J. Fox Foundation in the quest for a Parkinson’s disease cure.

Newman’s life is mourned by his spouse, Sarah, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage. Together they raised two adult children, Chris and Emily, and are also proud grandparents to Charlie.

Prior to his diagnosis, Newman had intended to retire in Hawaii. Notably, he and Sarah constructed their dream house only a couple of blocks away from the location where Baywatch: Hawaii was shot.
