According to the announcement made by Matthew Sweet’s manager, Russell Carter, it was necessary to call off a wide-ranging tour across the country due to a severe stroke that Sweet experienced in Toronto on Saturday night. This cancellation affected both headline shows and opening performances for his longtime friends Hanson.
Swiftly, Sweet was taken to Toronto Western Hospital for urgent treatment, and fortunately, he received critical care there. Later, he moved to a rehabilitation facility in Omaha, Nebraska, where he’s currently undergoing intensive therapy. Carter remains hopeful about Sweet’s recovery, believing that his remarkable resolve will aid him greatly as he works towards regaining good health.
Moreover, a GoFundMe account has been created to help cover Sweet’s substantial medical costs. Carter commented, “His performances are on hold for the time being. We established this fundraiser so that family, friends, and Sweet’s dedicated fan base can offer contributions. The generosity of these donations will aid in meeting his medical expenses.
Currently, our GoFundMe initiative has garnered around $295,310 out of its goal of $400,000. To date, we’ve received more than 5,300 generous contributions.
In these trying times, we are appealing for financial assistance to help Matthew, who is battling significant financial struggles due to lack of insurance and touring income. The enormous medical bills and ongoing expenses he faces are overwhelming. Doctors in Toronto played a crucial role in saving his life, but now he needs extensive rehabilitation in the U.S., which unfortunately adds more costs to his burden.
