Here is what we have learned about Orange County firefighter Kevin Skinner’s tragic demise.
Kevin Skinner passes away while fighting fire in Laguna Nigel, claims report
On January 5, 2025, I tragically lost my life while assisting at a residential fire in the 29400 block of Pointe Royale, Laguna Nigel. The alarm sounded at 4:56 a.m., and I responded alongside fellow firefighters to put out the blaze.
According to updates from Orange County Fire Authority’s social media platforms, it was stated that Skinner wasn’t feeling well. This was also communicated to team members during a house search operation he was part of. Subsequently, he was escorted off the scene towards an Ambulance, but unfortunately, collapsed. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, they were unable to revive him.
On a Sunday afternoon, authorities announced that Skinner experienced a heart attack.
Officials disclosed in a late Sunday press statement that Skinner underwent a cardiac incident.
At the time of his passing, Kevin Skinner was 56 years old. Prior to joining the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) in July 1999, he had served in the United States Navy. His loved ones – his wife, children Sierra, Kate, and Zac, as well as his mother, sister, and brother – remain behind him.
Online community members expressed sincere sympathies towards the family of the late Skinner. California Governor Gavin Newsom and his spouse, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, issued a statement saying:
“Our thoughts are with the family of [Skinner] during this difficult time.
With deepest condolences, we extend our sympathy to the family, friends, and peers of Fire Apparatus Engineer Skinner, during this difficult time as they grieve his passing. Jennifer and I acknowledge his courage and commitment in safeguarding California communities.
According to the OCFA’s reports, Skinner was known for his friendly demeanor and ability to make people feel at ease around him.
Following Kevin Skinner’s unfortunate passing, The Fallen Firefighter Relief Fund launched a GoFundMe campaign to aid his spouse and three kids, aiming to amass a total of $300,000. As of Tuesday, the fund has managed to collect $3000.
