Jane Bright, known for her appearance on Survivor: Nicaragua in 2010, has died at age 71.

On Thursday, Ashley Hammett revealed on Facebook that her mother, Bright, was discovered passed away at her residence in North Carolina. The news was broken to her by a friend and a local sheriff. The reason for her demise remains undisclosed.

On December 13, 1953, Bright, who hails from Jackson Springs, North Carolina, had already established herself as a skilled dog trainer before she appeared on CBS’s reality series at the age of 56. In Survivor Season 21, she represented the Espada tribe, comprised of older contestants. She managed to reach the sixth spot and was subsequently chosen by viewers as the Sprint Fan Favorite, winning a $100,000 prize.

Shining brightly, she was notable due to her relentless determination and infectious humor. In a previous interview, she spoke about her late husband Don’s encouragement for her to join the show, stating, “Don always wanted me to do this… he is here with me… I feel their presence, dear” (as quoted in Entertainment Weekly). Furthermore, she shared amusing anecdotes from her dog-training days, offering a glimpse into her character outside of the game.

After learning about her passing, various fellow contestants and admirers paid their respects. Donathan Hurley, a contestant on Survivor: Ghost Island, expressed his feelings by saying, “One of my cherished Survivor relatives has sadly passed away. I adored Jane so dearly!!!
