Irv Gotti passes away at 54, claims report

Irv Gotti, the music producer, is reportedly dead at 54.

It’s been verified by The Hollywood Reporter that his death occurred, but the specific reason is still undisclosed. Known as Gotti, who was born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., had experienced a minor stroke in early 2024. Media outlets suggested that he had long been dealing with diabetes, which added to his health complications.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, Gotti gained notoriety as the creator of Murder Inc. Records. He was instrumental in the rise of artists like Ja Rule and Ashanti. His unique approach to music production combined hip-hop rhythms with R&B tunes, leading to numerous multi-platinum hits such as “Always on Time” by Ja Rule, “I’m Real” by Jennifer Lopez, and “Foolish” by Ashanti. Murder Inc. records were sold in massive quantities around the world.

1998 saw the establishment of Murder Inc., but prior to that, Gotti had been employed at Def Jam as an A&R executive. He played a key role in creating “Can I Live” from Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt in 1996 and also served as executive producer for DMX’s 1998 album It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot.

Throughout his life and career, Gotti faced numerous challenges. In 2005, Gotti and his brother Chris Lorenzo were indicted for money laundering, with allegations that they were moving drug money. However, a court of law found them not guilty in December 2005. This trial had an influential impact on Gotti’s music production pace.
