George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso passes away at 55, claims report
As per reports, George Brooks Veikoso, better known by his stage name “Fiji,” passed away at 55.
As reported by Hawaii News Now, the artist was surrounded by loved ones when he passed away unexpectedly. Although specifics about his sudden death are scarce, it’s said that the musician breathed his final breath in his native land, Fiji.
Numerous peers of Veikoso offered heartfelt tributes to honor his life and contributions. Kimie Miner, one of them who viewed him as a mentor, shared her feelings with the media, “His passing has left me heartbroken because it felt like I could no longer reach out to my mentor, and he’s no longer here. Learning about his departure made me incredibly sad, but his impact is so profound that I know his memory will endure forever.
Simultaneously, musician Kelly Boy DeLima affectionately referred to Veikoso as his “brother” in Fijian dialect. In a heartfelt Instagram post, he expressed, “You’ve always been my greatest admirer. You will be greatly missed. Love you, Brother. Until we meet again.
George “Fiji” Veikoso embarked on his musical journey from childhood, making his industry debut with the Fijian band Rootstrata in 1987. Due to political turmoil, he was compelled to relocate to Hawaii in the same year. In Hawaii, Veikoso experienced a fresh start and released his first album, Evolution, in 1994. This album included popular tracks such as “Lia,” “Good Thang,” and “Symphony of Love.
2 years after releasing his debut album, Veikoso achieved number one status with the release of Born & Raised in 1996, firmly establishing himself as a pioneer in the Pacific reggae genre. His significant contributions to this field were acknowledged with numerous awards.
In 1998, Veikoso was honored with a Na Hoku Hanohano Award, followed by a Pacific Music Award in 2014, and in 2021, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. In the year 2024, he took charge of the Fiji Homecoming concert, which attracted thousands and showcased prominent Hawaiian artists.
