David Kaff dead at 79, claims report

As a devoted admirer, I’m deeply saddened to share the news that David Kaff, not just an actor but also a talented keyboardist, has left us at the age of 79. This tragic news was shared by his bandmates from Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom on Facebook. In their post, they expressed that he “passed away peacefully in his sleep.” They fondly remembered him as someone who always had a gentle and humorous demeanor. As they put it, “David always had a kind word and a quick wit that would take you by surprise, leaving you in stitches! Rest In Peace, dear brother.

David Kaffinetti (originally known as Kaff) hailed from Folkestone and embarked on his musical journey with classical piano lessons. As a young teenager, he transitioned to rock music. At the age of twenty-two, he established the progressive rock band Rare Bird. This band gained significant popularity with their 1969 hit “Sympathy.” Active from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, Rare Bird put out five studio albums and was among the pioneers signed to Charisma Records.

Kaff’s fame in pop culture, however, didn’t fully blossom until he portrayed Viv Savage, the quirky keyboardist of the fictitious metal band in “This Is Spinal Tap” (1984). This role catapulted him into stardom. He even joined the band for their promotional tour, which included a performance on Saturday Night Live. However, he left the group by the end of that year.

In subsequent years, Kaff continued his musical endeavors, performing with bands such as Model Citizenz and Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom. However, he will not be involved in the upcoming sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, scheduled for release on September 12.
