Chuck Mangione dead at 84, claims report
On July 22, 2025, Chuck Mangione, the acclaimed Grammy-winning jazz artist and songwriter, passed away at the ripe age of 84.
It was announced through a statement that he quietly passed away in his sleep at his residence in Rochester, New York. This information was initially shared with the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and subsequently verified by a representative to People Magazine.
As a passionate admirer, I’m deeply saddened to share this heartfelt message: “It is with profound sorrow that I must convey the news – Chuck Mangione has left us. This fact has been confirmed by his attorney, Peter S. Matorin. Since 2015, our beloved artist had retired from public life and took his final breath in the city where he was born on November 29, 1940.
Throughout my lengthy career spanning decades, I’ve put out over thirty albums, each one a testament to my passion for music. Two of these albums, Bellavia in 1977 and The Children of Sanchez in 1979, earned me Grammy Awards. However, it was the success of Feels So Good that truly catapulted me into stardom. This song climbed up to the No. 4 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and reigned supreme atop the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. In an interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2008, I referred to this success as a pivotal moment, stating, “That song took my career to an entirely new level.
Mangione, along with his sibling Gap, nurtured their passion for jazz in a music-appreciative household and started performing as The Jazz Brothers. In 1963, he completed his undergraduate studies at Eastman School of Music, and from 1968 to 1972, he led the school’s jazz ensemble. He performed the tune “Give It All You Got” during the closing ceremony of the 1980 Winter Olympics, as the games had commissioned this song.
In 2009, Mangione generously contributed his felt hat, sheet music, and other personal mementos to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. Known for lending his voice to the animated series King of the Hill, he was inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame in 2012.
