For quite some time now, Alan Jackson has been grappling with significant health complications. It was recently disclosed that he is afflicted by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a condition that impacts his muscle strength and balance. During his recent performance at the ACM Awards, fans have expressed their worry about the artist’s wellbeing.
Here’s what happened to Alan Jackson
For more than ten years, the renowned country musician, Alan Jackson, has been battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, an inherited health issue that impacts nerve function. Over time, this condition has progressively affected his capacity to perform, leading to challenges with maintaining balance and making movements smoothly.
In 2011, Jackson made his diagnosis public for the first time in a 2021 interview with Jenna Bush Hager on the TODAY show. During the conversation, he disclosed that he had inherited the condition from his father and that it has also affected other members of his family.
Jackson has been dealing with this issue for quite some time now, and it’s becoming increasingly noticeable. He admitted, “I can see myself tripping up on stage lately, and even when I’m standing in front of the microphone, my balance isn’t as steady as it used to be. It makes me feel uneasy, and I want everyone to understand that’s why I might appear different.
As stated by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is characterized by a blend of motor and sensory problems, including numbness, tingling sensations, pain, muscle weakness, and tissue decomposition. Regrettably, there is no known cure for the disease at present; however, treatments such as physical therapy can assist in alleviating symptoms.
Back in the game after some tough times, I stepped into the limelight once more on May 8, delivering an emotional rendition of “Remember When” at the ACM Awards. Later that night, I was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award – a moment I’ll always cherish as a country music icon.
After looking back on his extensive career, he expressed, “I arrived in Nashville with a bag of tunes and a wild fantasy, and now, after many years, I’m accepting this prestigious award. It’s absolutely astonishing.” (via US Weekly)
On his “One More for the Road” Farewell Tour, Jackson persists with his shows despite persistent health issues. The tour started back in 2022 and had a short break. It will culminate with a final show on May 17, 2025, right here in Milwaukee.
