Williams was almost arrested for his unauthorized possession of guns.
Late at night on October 8th, police apprehended Williams and his sibling close to the intersection of Conner Street and Jefferson Avenue. At the time, his brother was behind the wheel. It appears they were pulled over for allegedly exceeding the speed limit.
After a closer look, officers found two firearms inside the vehicle. One gun was situated at the backseat and belonged to Williams’ brother, while the other was stashed under Williams’ own seat. As per SportsKeeda’s report, a police video shows Williams repeatedly mentioning that he plays for the Detroit Lions. Additionally, he admitted in the video about keeping guns for safety reasons due to Detroit’s high crime rates.
Yet, it turned out that Williams lacked a Concealed Pistol License (CPL). A sergeant reached out to senior officers to determine whether Williams should be arrested. Additionally, the calls were placed to verify if his brother’s CPL permitted him to carry both firearms. Ultimately, no charges were brought against Williams, and he was released from custody without further incident.
Afterwards, the Detroit Police Department issued an announcement, ensuring that the warrant application submitted against Williams was under scrutiny.
