What Did Elton John Say About Losing Sight in Right Eye?

As a seasoned gamer and music lover who has grown up with Elton John‘s iconic tunes as the soundtrack to my life, hearing about his recent health struggles has hit me hard. Losing eyesight is a terrifying prospect for anyone, but especially for someone whose career relies so heavily on sight and performance.

Elton John disclosed to Robin Roberts of “Good Morning America” that an infection had caused him to lose vision in his right eye. This revelation was made during their recent interview, which Roberts conducted at John’s home near London for the show’s latest segment. The broadcast further mentioned that John will divulge intimate aspects about his personal life and music career in a new documentary titled “Elton John: Never Too Late.

Elton John reveals why he lost sight in one of his eyes

In a recent interview, I opened up about a challenging health issue I’m facing – an infection that has partially blinded my right eye. This topic arose when Robin Roberts asked me about the new album I mentioned earlier. I admitted, “It’s been some time since I’ve been actively working on anything,” before delving into my current situation. I traced the infection back to my visit to the south of France in July.

The performer shared that it’s been four months since he’s lost his sight, and his left eye isn’t in top shape either, making vision difficult. He expressed a sense of being temporarily stuck due to his current condition, but also mentioned there’s optimism that his eye problem might get better eventually. Later in the conversation, at 77 years old, he revealed that although visiting the studio and recording for the upcoming album is still possible, he’s uncertain because he can’t read the lyrics without sight.

Regarding the difficulties he faces with his eye condition, Elton John has decided to take action and address the situation, expressing regret that it happened. He was deeply affected when his eyesight failed, saying he can’t see, read or watch anything. Yet, despite this setback, John maintains a positive outlook, considering himself the “luckiest man in the world” and cherishing his upcoming documentary, his sons, and his self-image.

The film “Elton John: Never Too Late” made its theater debut in both the U.K. and the U.S., with screenings only for a short time, and it’s set to launch on Disney+ on December 13.
