As a seasoned gamer and animal lover, I find myself deeply disturbed by this bizarre turn of events involving Peanut the Squirrel. The fact that Donald Trump and JD Vance are discussing the alleged murder of an Instagram-famous squirrel feels like a surreal blend of reality TV and political theater that I’ve only experienced in some alternate universe video game level.
JD Vance shared with his supporters that Donald Trump appears energized following the decision by New York wildlife officials to put down Peanut the Squirrel. During a campaign stop in Sanford, North Carolina, Vance (the vice-presidential nominee) mentioned the squirrel’s unfortunate demise. According to Vance, he and Trump had a conversation about this topic when Trump speculated if Democrats were responsible for Peanut’s death and referred to him as the “Elon Musk of squirrels.
Donald Trump asked JD Vance if Democrats ‘murdered’ Instagram-famous squirrel
While addressing a crowd during the Sanford rally, JD Vance talked about his conversation with Donald Trump about Peanut the Squirrel’s death. Vance claimed that “Don’s fired up about Peanut the squirrel.” He then talked about how Trump asked him, “Is it really the case that the Democrats murdered the Elon Musk of squirrels,” referring to Peanut, to which Vance replied in affirmative.
JD Vance voiced his disapproval towards the immigration policies of the opposition, saying, “The same administration that seems unconcerned about hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrant criminals entering our country finds issue with pet ownership. It’s utterly bizarre – the most bizarre thing.” On a lighter note, Elon Musk honored Peanut the Squirrel by sharing a photo with Mark Longo, who cared for him, on X (formerly Twitter). Musk wrote in his post, “President @realDonaldTrump will protect our squirrels. Rest In Peace P’Nut.
On Wednesday, officials from New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation took into custody a squirrel named Peanut and a rescued raccoon called Fred, who were living with Mark Longo in rural Pine City. The confiscation was made following complaints about illegal animal keeping at his home. Unfortunately, during the investigation, Peanut bit an official, prompting them to put him down for rabies tests. Similarly, both the DEC and Chemung County Health Department announced that they had euthanized Fred as well.
