What Can We Expect of IDW Distributing Alien Books’ Valiant Universe?

For a while now, I hadn’t come across news about the rejuvenated Valiant Comics, a company that was initially co-founded by Jim Shooter. However, as per Comic Book Club Live, it seems that IDW, a publisher currently facing challenges in maintaining its sales, will be responsible for distributing Valiant’s comics.

In an unexpected yet logical partnership, IDW Publishing has joined forces with Alien Books, the publishing house behind the Valiant Universe, for distribution purposes.

According to a press release shared with Comic Book Club, Alien Books will achieve greater success within the industry thanks to IDW’s distribution, marketing efforts, data-driven sales analysis, and logistical support. Yet, Alien Books will continue to oversee their own creative plans, such as the upcoming reintroduction of the famous Valiant Universe through the Valiant Beyond project.

Essentially, IDW will assume control over the distribution of Alien Books’ entire catalog, encompassing Valiant and multiple Original Graphic Novels, for both comic book stores and bookstores. While Alien continues to function as an autonomous entity, IDW stands to gain from Valiant Universe’s superhero roster, a domain where IDW currently has limited presence.

It seems as though they might be joining forces, but it’s uncertain what benefit that would bring at this stage since they’re both outdated relics of the past. You may recall that Valiant employed Heather Antos, a progressive editor, several years ago, yet it didn’t seem to improve their situation in the long term. Given that they have issues with being woke and IDW has lost the license for GI Joe, it appears both companies are grappling with problems related to progressive ideologies. I can only hope that any independent creators who previously worked with IDW have chosen to distance themselves from them now.

If the situation remains unchanged, it’s pointless to have your self-created works published by IDW or Valiant.
