As a dedicated fan of this gripping series, I must say that the revelation of Silo 18’s tunnels has certainly added a new layer of intrigue to the world of Silo. The way the show subtly hinted at their existence for so long, only to finally unveil them in Season 2, is nothing short of masterful storytelling.
In the second season of Silo, the enigma surrounding the tunnels was finally unraveled, as they had been kept under wraps regarding their existence and purpose throughout much of season 1 and the initial stages of season 2. This revelation has left viewers pondering where the tunnels of Silo 18 might lead, and speculating if Juliette Nichols could possibly utilize them to make her way back home.
Here is everything we know about the show’s tunnel system.
Where do Silo 18’s tunnels lead to?
Silo 18’s tunnel system connects the underground city to the outside world and also other silos.
The confirmation comes when Lukas Kyle, following instructions from IT department head Bernard Holland, fixes George Wilkins’ faulty hard drive. Upon doing so, he unearths a map for Silo 18. This map reveals the hidden underground tunnels linking their city and the outside world, a fact that Bernard was aware of due to Juliette’s disclosure.
In Season 1, George Wilkins led Juliette into the depths of the Silo, revealing its lowest levels. There, she spotted a door and an enormous boring machine above the accumulated water. This machine was spacious enough to accommodate several Silo inhabitants. However, operating it would consume a significant amount of fuel.
There’s a chance that this dull drilling device might be useful when drilling from one silo to another. The final episode of Season 1 hinted that several silos were located quite near to each other, as viewed from an external perspective.
Could Juliette use Silo’s tunnels to return?
Juliette could likely use Silo’s tunnels to return home.
In Season 2, Juliette overcame her fear of water (aquaphobia) and learned how to swim. This new skill enabled her to utilize swimming as a means to navigate the underwater passageway beneath Silo 17. If there is indeed a tunnel connection between Silos 17 and 18, this would provide a route for her return.
Instead, she might opt to master the operation of the unexciting device she stumbled upon. Once proficient, she could employ it as a means to return to Silo 18.
Silo is currently streaming on Apple TV Plus.
