What are Brute Wyverns in Monster Hunter Wilds?

As a gamer, I’ve found myself frequently encountering the elusive Brute Wyverns in Monster Hunter Wilds. Unlike the abundance of creatures in past games, these beasts are scarce, yet they hold significant importance to my adventure. For quite some time, they are the sole providers of their specific elements, making frequent battles with them inevitable.

This Monster Hunter Wilds guide explains what Brute Wyverns are and which ones are in the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds: All Brute Wyverns

Initially, Monster Hunter Wilds features just two species of non-flying, bird-like Wyverns known as Brute Wyverns at its launch. Typically, series regulars like Barroth or Anjanath would belong to this category, but in a surprising twist, the game introduces two completely new Brute Wyverns instead of sticking to tradition.

Quematrice

The creature known as Quematrice bears a resemblance to a dinosaur with a rooster’s head, and it has the ability to emit sparks from its tail that detonate. Unlike the common Brute Wyvern, which relies on raw strength, Quematrice is not your typical brute force monster. As expected, Quematrice is a fire-aligned beast, making it resistant to fire and vulnerable to water. You can encounter this fiery creature in Windward Plains and, on occasion, the Ruins of Wyveria. Early in the game, Quematrice serves as your primary source for fire-resistant equipment and weapons. Later, when you unlock high-rank hunts, it remains a valuable resource.

Rompopolo

The creature known as Rompopolo is harder to classify compared to Quematrice, boasting a raven-like face, bulky physique, and expandable limbs. Unlike Quematrice, it can only be found in the Oilwell Basin, and it has a tendency to release toxic substances. To ensure safety, always carry antidotes, and if available, protective gear against poison. It’s worth noting that Rompopolo is vulnerable to water. As you progress through the game, various weapons like the Dual Blades will have forge trees with water elements, but for beginners, Uth Duna weapons are most effective in exploiting its weaknesses.

In the game, you can’t acquire poison weapons or gain poison resistance until after the main story, when Gypceros appears. Until then, Rompopolo is your sole means of obtaining these items.
