As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my experience with the latest Wet Leg album, titled “moisturizer.” If you haven’t given it a listen yet, brace yourself! There’s an abundance of catchy tunes that will worm their way into your consciousness, and you’ll find yourself humming them everywhere.

Initially, you’ll be smitten by these tracks; they’re hard not to love. But after a few days, you might find yourself subtly annoyed by the earworms. However, the real source of your irritation should be yourself – because once these songs get under your skin, it’s a sign that they’ve made an indelible mark on you!

The band puts a great deal of effort into crafting songs that won’t irritate you, but it seems some listeners are more focused on the fact that lead singer Rhian Teasdale occasionally lets her armpit hair grow. Interestingly, although this isn’t necessarily untidy for Teasdale, some people seem to be uncomfortable with women having body hair, even though they find it acceptable in men.

The significance here is that the singer pledged on TikTok to get rid of her armpit hair if Wet Leg’s album dethrones Oasis’s compilation, “Time Flies…1994-2009”, as the number one album in the UK charts. The band wrote, “Since you want to claim the peak position of your duo (Oasis) if you manage it, it seems only fair that you should be willing to part with the glory if you wish me to part with my armpit hair.

In its debut week, Wet Leg’s record climbed to the top spot, while an Oasis compilation from 15 years ago slipped to number two. The fact that a moisturizer managed to outrank such an established and aged Oasis best-of album is as much a testament to the influence of the Gallagher brothers as it is to the talent of the band hailing from the Isle of Wight.

Wet Leg might find it more challenging to make it to the top of the US Billboard charts given that Morgan Wallen is frequently putting out albums that reach the chart summit. Last week alone, he occupied both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions on the Billboard 200.

Although Wet Leg’s current album has potential to reach the peak position, if moisturizer manages to claim the No. 1 spot, it may not maintain that position for long as Wallen’s fans are likely to boost him back to the top. Wallen appears to triumph effortlessly, as though he doesn’t mind whether he does or not. On the other hand, Wet Leg’s Teasdale is determined to do whatever it takes, such as shaving her armpits, in order to reach the No. 1 spot.
