2024 saw one of the finest horror movies ever made: Nosferatu. Boasting a stellar cast featuring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicholas Hoult, and others, this gothic horror masterpiece was destined for greatness from the start. Now, director Robert Eggers is expanding his team for his upcoming film Werwulf by recruiting yet another star from Nosferatu’s Oscar-nominated ensemble.
Currently, details about the storyline of the upcoming horror movie, Werwulf, are being kept secret. All we know is that it is set in 13th-century England and is scheduled for release on Christmas Day next year, similar to Nosferatu’s release last year. It is likely that the period horror film will delve into the folklore of werewolves.
Who is in the Werwulf cast?
According to Deadline, it has been announced that Willem Dafoe will be joining the cast of the upcoming film Nosferatu as part of the project titled Werwulf. It appears that director Robert Eggers extended role offers to Dafoe for two different movies back in December. Although the nature of these offers remains unclear, it seems that one of them was for the movie Werwulf.
Apart from their collaboration on Nosferatu, The Lighthouse, and The Northman, the Spider-Man actor and Eggers have often worked together. Additionally, Dafoe is in discussions to take on the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in Eggers’ adaptation of A Christmas Carol. This Charles Dickens tale’s supernatural aspects and period setting align with Eggers’ usual style of storytelling.
In discussions for the role of Werwulf alongside Lily-Rose Depp are other potential cast members. Depp portrayed Ellen Hutter, a character who unintentionally formed a chilling bond with Count Orlok. Similarly, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who took on the role of Ellen’s friend’s husband, is also slated to feature in the upcoming werewolf film.
By opting to work once more with his Nosferatu team for the upcoming film “Werwulf”, it’s evident that director Robert Eggers recognizes exceptional talent and values continuity in his projects. Keep an eye out for future updates on “Werwulf” and mark your calendars for its release in theaters on December 25, 2026.
