Johnny’s revenge plan against Blake Beaumont’s team in We Were Liars explained
In Episode 5 of “We Were Liars,” we get a glimpse into the past showing that Johnny was a tennis coach for a team. Additionally, it sets up a competitive dynamic between him and Blake Beaumont, who headed another team, creating a tense rivalry.
During a tournament, Blake’s group creates trouble for Johnny’s team by damaging their lockers. This leads to a dispute between the two teams. Later, Johnny and his crew take revenge by flooding Blake’s team’s tennis court. Unfortunately, an innocent boy named Delgado saw this. Worried about getting caught, Johnny ends up hurting Delgado severely.
After discovering that Delgado was admitted to the hospital, Johnny feels compelled to reveal to his mother, Carrie, his wrongdoings towards the boy. Carrie then takes action to resolve the issue by offering payments to Delgado, his doctors, family, and even Blake’s group, in exchange for their silence concerning Johnny’s misdeeds. Earlier, Blake, who possessed a recording of Johnny assaulting Delgado, intended to extort the family by publishing the video on the internet.
Blake’s competitive relationship with Johnny took a complex turn due to his developing affection for him. However, this emotion grew even more intricate when Blake discovered he and Mirren had been exchanging messages over the summer.
Sadly, it seems like viewers won’t ever witness Johnny expressing his feelings for Blake directly, as the final episode of the first season showed that Johnny perished in the fire that destroyed the Clairmont mansion.
We Were Liars is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
