Watson has a trailer so here's what to know about the new CBS medical mystery series!

As a devoted fan of crime dramas and medical mysteries, I am positively thrilled about the upcoming show, Watson! With its intriguing blend of genres and a nod to the legendary Sherlock Holmes series, it’s bound to leave audiences on the edge of their seats.

It appears that Watson is shaping up to offer an impressive blend of different genres for CBS. Here are some key points you should know!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve come across numerous television adaptations of Sherlock Holmes, including CBS’s ‘Elementary’, where Jonny Lee Miller portrays the contemporary version of this legendary detective. What made this rendition captivating was Lucy Liu as Joan Watson, a competent assistant to Sherlock who’s also an impressive detective in her own league.

Currently, CBS is diving back into familiar waters with their upcoming series titled “Watson“. This production seems like an exciting fusion of the classic Holmes lore and the Fox show “House” (a connection that’s logical since Holmes served as inspiration for the latter). The initial trailer suggests a compelling blend of medical and crime drama, promising this show could be truly exceptional!

What is Watson about?

In the series, we find ourselves several months following what seems like the demise of Sherlock Holmes, with John Watson (Morris Chestnut) deeply grieving. The preview hints at Watson witnessing Holmes’ supposed end, mirroring their iconic confrontation against Holmes’ arch-nemesis, James Moriarty, on the cliffs of Reichenbach Falls.

Now situated in Pittsburgh, Watson manages a specialized clinic focusing on uncommon medical issues. He employs the investigative abilities he honed under Holmes to seek treatments with a competent team by his side. However, upon Moriarty’s resurfacing, Watson must again rely on his problem-solving prowess in crime-related matters.

A year following Holmes’ seemingly fatal encounter with arch-nemesis Moriarty, Watson establishes a practice specializing in treating peculiar illnesses in Pittsburgh. Yet, the tranquility is short-lived as Moriarty resurfaces, forcing Watson to confront old demons in another fierce confrontation.

Who stars in Watson?

The big name is Morris Chestnut in the title role. The veteran actor has been a star in movie roles like The Best Man series and is well known for TV shows like V, Rosewood, Goliath, and The Resident. He looks to have the gravitas needed for the part and is surrounded by a top-notch supporting cast. That includes actress Eve Harlow and SWAT star Rochelle Aytes as John’s ex-wife.

  • Morris Chestnut as John Watson
  • Eve Harlow as Ingrid Derian, “an aloof but highly skilled neurologist with an enigmatic past”
  • Peter Mark Kendall as Stephens Croft and Adam Croft,” identical twin brothers, acting as infectious disease and functional medicine specialists at the clinic.”
  • Inga Schlingmann as Sasha Lubbock, “a charismatic specialist in rheumatology and immunology.”
  • Ritchie Coster as Shinwell Johnson, “a former criminal acquaintance of Holmes and Watson who works as the clinic’s administrative aide.”
  • Rochelle Aytes as Mary Morstan, “a noted East Coast surgeon and Watson’s ex-wife who currently serves as the clinic’s medical director.”

When does Watson premiere?

On January 26th at 10/9 PM Central Time, CBS is planning a grand debut for the show, which will follow the AFC Championship game. Starting February 16th, however, it will shift to its regular airing time of 9/8 PM Central Time.

It’s common for CBS to debut a fresh series following a significant event, with a delay until its regular broadcasting starts. With the AFC championship games serving as a precursor, it’s expected that there will be many viewers tuning in to Watson for an impressive premiere.

The blend of diverse genres and an outstanding central character make Watson a strong contender to become part of CBS’s series of investigative dramas, potentially adding another success story to their network roster.

Watson premieres Sunday, Jan. 26, 205 at 10/9c on CBS.
