As a seasoned gamer with an extensive background in immersive storytelling and digital artistry, I must confess my excitement for the practical effects-focused approach in the upcoming Wicked movie. Cynthia Erivo’s commitment to embracing the physical transformation of her character, Elphaba, resonates deeply with my own appreciation for the tangible aspects of gaming and performance.
A fresh behind-the-scenes video about the musical “Wicked” is out now, giving a glimpse into the preparations made by actress Cynthia Erivo as she takes on the character of Elphaba.
After the actress, known for films like Bad Times at the El Royale, Harriet, Luther: The Fallen Sun, and others, disclosed that she had the option to use either computer-generated imagery (CGI) or real-life effects for her character Elphaba, the video was released.
As a green enthusiast, I yearned to gaze upon hands and count fingers, all adorned in vibrant greenery. I longed to catch my reflection and find a lush green visage staring back at me from the mirror. Moreover, the intrigue of witnessing others’ reactions upon encountering a verdant individual like myself was an alluring prospect, as it would subtly influence how I carried myself. Erivo shared this sentiment with Empire.
What happens in the new Wicked video?
After Erivo announced that she opted for real effects instead of CGI, the recently released behind-the-scenes video – named “A Day in the Life of Cynthia Erivo” – showcases her process of getting ready to embody the green-skinned character. This includes applying ear prosthetics and green makeup, donning a wig, and adding fake freckles.
