As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for dark humor and horror genres, I must say that Hysteria! has piqued my interest. With a stellar cast including Garret Dillahunt, known for his chilling roles in Fear the Walking Dead and Deadwood, and Eric Tiede, who’s been keeping us on our toes in Tales of the Walking Dead and Modern Family, this series seems to be a promising blend of suspense, comedy, and social commentary.
Actor Garret Dillahunt, known for his role in “Fear the Walking Dead,” and Eric Tiede from “Tales of the Walking Dead” have joined forces in Peacock’s freshly released comedy-horror series, perfect for Halloween viewing. This eight-episode series debuted on the streaming platform on October 18th.
The horror anthology series titled “Hysteria!” by Matthew Scott Kane (Stichers) is set amidst the Satanic Panic of the 1980s. Co-written with David A. Goodman, they both act as executive producers alongside John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who are also known for their work on “Dungeons & Dragons” and “Game Night”. This production is under Good Fear Content, which has previously worked on projects like “My Spy”, “Mulan”, and “Under the Silver Lake”. Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Wendey Stanzler each direct two episodes, while Alonso Alvaraez-Barreda, Shana Stein, Eduardo Sanchez, and Millicent Shelton each take charge of one.
The story takes place in the quaint town of Happy Hollow during the 1980s, amidst the frenzy of Satanic Panic fears. When the star high school quarterback vanishes, the town spirals into turmoil. A local garage band sees this as an opportunity and rebrands themselves as a Satanic metal group, finding initial success. However, strange murders occur, causing suspicion to fall upon the band, who may or may not be innocent.
Overwhelming Acclaim! This show is widely appreciated and boasts an impressive 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It masterfully combines elements of dark comedy, terror, and societal critique.
