As a hardcore fan of The Walking Dead, I’ve been through a rollercoaster of emotions since Steven Yeun‘s departure from the show as Glenn Rhee. His sudden and controversial death left many fans heartbroken, but little did we know that this was just the beginning of Yeun’s remarkable journey in Hollywood.
Steven Yeun, a beloved character in “The Walking Dead” as Glenn Rhee from seasons 1 to 7, saw his death in the series spark controversy. In an interview with Empire, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) discussed this pivotal moment post-departure for Yeun. Since then, Yeun has gained significant recognition; he was the first Asian American nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in “Minari” (2020). Previously, in 2018, Yeun starred in the thriller “Burning,” a critically acclaimed performance now streaming on Netflix.
As a gamer, I’ve come across an intriguing movie titled “Burning.” This film is inspired by Haruki Murakami’s short story “Barn Burning,” which originally appeared in his collection “The Elephant Vanishes.” The masterful Lee Chang-dong directed it, marking his first project in eight years.
In a gripping and gradual build-up, the movie showcases Yeun’s exceptional acting skills as Ben, an enigmatic man with an unusual pastime. His path crosses with that of Jong-su (Yoo Ah-in), who dreams of being a writer and is a deliveryman by trade. Their connection begins through their mutual friend Hae-mi (Jeon Jeong-seo). When Hae-mi comes back from Africa accompanied by Ben, Jong-su feels like an outsider in their relationship. Suspicions grow when it seems that Hae-mi has gone missing during one of Ben’s strange rituals. Although the plot is generally clear, the ending may leave audiences puzzled and pondering over the true meaning behind the events unfolding on screen.

Yeun has gained significant recognition, most notably for his Oscar-nominated role in the immigrant drama “Minari.” He has also appeared in films like “Mayhem” with Samara Weaving, the action-adventure “Okja,” and the dark comedy “Sorry to Bother You.”
In the year 2021, he acted alongside Jayne Houdyshell, Richard Jenkins, and Amy Schumer in a one-act play adaptation of “The Humans”. The following year, in 2022, he took on the lead role in Jordan Peele’s science fiction horror production titled “Nope”.
In the Netflix production “Beef,” Yeun gave a notable performance that earned him both a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor and a Golden Globe for Best Actor recognition. Ali Wong, his co-star, also shone with two Golden Globe and two Primetime Emmy wins for her role.
