As a gamer with a deep appreciation for both movies and TV shows, I must say that Jake Weary has truly made his mark in the entertainment industry. From humble beginnings on daytime soap operas to his current roles in critically acclaimed series like “The Walking Dead: Dead City” and “Animal Kingdom,” he’s proven himself to be a versatile actor with a knack for taking on diverse characters.
Actor Jake Weary was unveiled as part of the cast for the second season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” on SDCC, alongside Dascha Polanco, Keir Gilchrist, and Pooya Mohseni. Filming has been completed for this season in Massachusetts, and it is anticipated to air in 2025. In June, Netflix premiered the action film “Trigger Warning“, featuring Weary as one of its stars as well.
As a cinephile with a deep appreciation for international cinema, I am particularly excited about the upcoming action thriller “Trigger Warning,” directed by Mouly Surya. Being a filmmaker myself, I have always admired those who dare to break barriers and step out of their comfort zones, especially when it comes to language. Surya’s decision to direct her first English-language film is a testament to her courage and adaptability, qualities that resonate deeply with me as someone who has had to navigate the complexities of working in multiple languages throughout my life.
The film narrates the story of Parker (Jessica Alba), a former special forces operative, who returns home following her father’s unexpected demise. She inherits his bar and rekindles relationships with Jesse (Mark Webber), now the sheriff, his brother Elvis (Weary), and their powerful father, Senator Swann (Anthony Michael Hall). In her quest to uncover the circumstances surrounding her father’s death, Parker crosses paths with a dangerous street gang. With the help of her covert ops partner Spider (Tone Bell), a hacker, and local dealer Mike (Gabriel Basso), she unravels the truth.

What else does Jake Weary star in?
In 2002, Weary kicked off his acting journey with a guest role on the CBS daytime drama “Guiding Light,” where his mother, Daytime Emmy winner Kim Zimmer, played Reva Shayne. Following this, he appeared in episodes of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” At just 15 years old, he landed the role of Luke Snyder on “As the World Turns.”
Known for his acting roles, he has appeared as Vince Keller in the NBC series “Chicago Fire,” Cyrus Petrillo on the teen show “Pretty Little Liars,” and more recently as Deran Cody in the TNT crime drama “Animal Kingdom.”
Many fans may not know that he also starred in Nickelodeon’s Fred: The Movie, its sequels, and Fred: The Show. Weary portrayed Kevin, the arch-rival of the titular character portrayed by Lucas Cruikshank. The franchise also starred Jennette McCurdy, Siobhan Fallon Hogan, John Cena, Stephanie Courtney, Gary Anthony Williams, and Oscar Nunez. The movie received negative critical response but was the highest-viewed TV Cable movie of 2010.
His debut as a lead actor was in the 2008 film “Assassination of a High School President,” where he played a hall monitor. Additional films to his name are “Tomato Red,” “Smartass,” and “Finding Steve McQueen.” He shared the screen with Aldis Hodge, formerly of “The Walking Dead,” in the movie “The Birthday Cake,” which boasts an illustrious cast.
Weary has starred in several horror features, including the horror comedy Zombeavers, which, surprisingly, received fairly positive reviews. He would then star in It Follows, a horror film praised for its originality with a story that follows a young woman who, after a sexual encounter, is pursued by a supernatural being. He portrayed Webby, the leader of a gang in It Chapter Two.
2022 saw Weary taking the lead role in the intense eco-thriller, “How to Sabotage a Pipeline.” This film draws inspiration from Ariela Barer’s fictional work of the same name, which delves into the history of social justice and investigates the controversial notion that property destruction, advocated for environmental justice, can be justified.
