At SIIMA 2024, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan gleamed with joy upon receiving the Best Actress award for her performance in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan 2. The movie showcased Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, and many others in significant roles as well.
Upon receiving the award, she delivered a touching speech expressing her gratitude to SIIMA for recognizing her with this honor. She said, “I can’t thank you enough for bestowing this award upon me. The film, Ponniyin Selvan, holds a special place in my heart, as it was directed by my esteemed mentor, Mani Ratnam. To be celebrated for my work as Nandini in Ponniyin Selvan is really to celebrate the efforts of our entire dedicated team.
For those unfamiliar, PS was initially planned as a standalone movie. However, the creators opted to divide the film into two separate installments and release them sequentially. Besides Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, the cast includes Trisha, Sobhita Dhulipala, Parthiban, among others. Sarathkumar and Jayam Ravi also play significant roles in the film.
Notably, some well-known actors such as Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Rana Daggubati, among others, are said to have provided the narration for this movie.
The initial movie came out as far back as 2022, but its sequel premiered in cinemas a year later, in 2023.
