Was Rajinikanth’s Billa a box office flop? Bollywood director makes controversial statement, gets called out by superstar’s manager

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but marvel at Rajinikanth’s enduring appeal and captivating screen presence even at the age of 74. It’s truly inspiring! Notably, Bollywood director Vishnuvardhan found himself in a bit of a bind when he labeled Thalaiva’s timeless movie Billa as a box office disappointment.

During a conversation with SS Music, the director admitted later on that the initial version of Billa, released in 1980, didn’t fare too well financially at movie theaters.

Nevertheless, he disclosed the single motivation behind his decision to re-create the movie in another language, featuring a new main actor instead.

Vishnuvardhan expressed, “Did you know the initial Billa movie didn’t do well at the box office? That really caught me off guard. But then I started thinking about what I appreciated most about the film – it was the complex character of its main hero. I thought to myself, ‘That’s a fantastic concept!’

Frankly, I can’t help but feel a tad dismayed by the claim that didn’t resonate with reality. The truth is, the Rajinikanth blockbuster wasn’t merely successful; it was an unprecedented triumph!

A short while later, Rajinikanth’s representative publicly labeled a claim about Vishnuvardhan as untrue via social media.

To X (previously known as Twitter), the manager politely posted, “Dear Vishnuvardhan sir, I’d like to draw your attention to the fact that the 1980 film ‘Billa’ was a Silver Jubilee success. If you could verify this with the original version’s producer, Mr. Suresh Balaji, it would be greatly appreciated. Let’s strive for accuracy in our statements to prevent the spread of incorrect information.

Speaking of exciting updates, I’ve found myself captivated lately by the unveiling of the long-anticipated teaser for Rajinikanth’s upcoming movie sequel, Jailer 2.
