David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, has identified the primary figures who are expected to play crucial roles in expanding the universe of DC (DCU) as key assets.
The DC Universe launched by James Gunn and Peter Safran commenced in December 2024, starting with the series Creature Commandos. Following this was Gunn’s Superman film, scheduled for release in July. Subsequently, Peacemaker Season 2 is set to debut in August.
Who are the four main characters of the DCU?
On a first-quarter earnings conference call with Warner Bros. Discovery, as reported by ComicBookMovie, Zaslav declared that Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl are set to be the principal figures in the DC Universe.
Zaslav stated that it’s crucial for us to market our content to external entities, but upon examination of our catalog, there are numerous titles that essentially belong to Warner Bros. He explained that the key characters which James Gunn and Peter Safran are developing as part of their 10-year plan for DC, such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, and Supergirl, serve a dual purpose: building global value for us and distinguishing our content worldwide. Essentially, these characters are viewed as significant assets and unique selling points.
It’s not really shocking because Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are known as the main trio of DC Comics. However, the fact that Supergirl is also included implies that her upcoming movie will be just the beginning for Kara in the DC Universe. The film, titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” is being directed by Craig Gillespie with Milly Alcock portraying the main character. It’s scheduled to hit US theaters on June 26, 2026.
It’s still undecided when Batman or Wonder Woman will first appear in a live-action DC Universe film. There’s a possibility that Batman might be seen in the 2026 Clayface movie, and there’s also a project called The Brave and The Bold in development, which focuses on Batman, but its release date hasn’t been announced yet.
In addition to Wonder Woman, another show named Paradise Lost is being developed, set on Themyscira. Unlike the story of Diana Prince, this series will be set before her birth, and it’s uncertain if the character herself will make an appearance. At present, there’s no announced release date for the series.
