As a dedicated and passionate Warframe fan, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I watched TennoCon 2024 unfold, especially during the final panel keynote where Digital Extremes unveiled the highly-anticipated expansion, Warframe: 1999. The prospect of exploring an alternate version of Earth in the late 90s, complete with grunge aesthetics, boybands, and Y2K panic, had me hooked since its announcement.
Enthusiasts of Warframe have long awaited more information about the forthcoming expansion, named “Warframe: 1999.” At TennoCon, Digital Extends finally revealed some insights during the concluding keynote panel. For the initial peek at gameplay, they drew aside the veil. Moreover, the studio assured fans that this addition will be available this winter season.
In the upcoming expansion of Warframe, there’s an imagined Earth from 1999 with distinct features of the late ’90s – grunge style, popular boybands, and millennial anxiety included. The narrative revolves around a team of six Protoframes, which you can interact with via instant messaging. These characters are on a mission to locate Dr. Entrati before the strike of midnight on New Year’s Eve. Additionally, players who develop feelings for the new characters will have the opportunity to explore a romance system within this expansion.
In the upcoming updates for Warframe, players will encounter a new vehicle called the Atomicycle, showcased with Arthur behind the wheel during the gameplay demonstration. Additionally, players can anticipate fresh Gemini Skins, equipped with full voiceovers and personalization options. These skins are designed not only for Protoframes but also for some fundamental Warframes.
Rebecca Ford, Warframe’s Creative Director, expressed her gratitude: “It’s a privilege to embark on this unusual journey with Warframe: 1999, a community that has supported us for over a decade. Together, we’ve created something extraordinary, and we’re looking forward to more collaboration in the upcoming space-age era filled with Warframes, Protoframes, and the search for Albrecht Entrati. To show our appreciation, we’ll be touring globally, visiting fans at Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and other events.”
Warframe’s highly anticipated expansion, Warframe: 1999, is set to release this winter. To keep players engaged before then, there’s the Lotus Eaters Quest arriving in August. This prelude leads up to Warframe: 1999 and continues the storyline initiated by Whispers in the Walls. Stay tuned to Shacknews for more Warframe updates from TennoCon 2024.
