War of the Rohirrim’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Doesn’t Match The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

As a lifelong fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth, I must admit I was eagerly anticipating “The War of the Rohirrim.” Having grown up with Peter Jackson’s iconic trilogy and more recently binge-watching Amazon’s “Rings of Power,” I expected another thrilling journey into this fantastical world.

The upcoming animated movie “War of the Rohirrim,” a prequel to Peter Jackson’s acclaimed “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, is getting close to its theatrical premiere and initial reviews have started coming in. Set 183 years before the original storyline, this film revolves around Helm Hammerhand, who was then the ruler of Rohan. After a sudden assault, Hammerhand wages a full-scale war against the encroaching Dunlendings to protect his kingdom and family. Unfortunately, the movie has thus far garnered mediocre responses, leading to a relatively low Rotten Tomatoes rating for the series.

The War of the Rohirrim gets mixed reviews

Several reviewers find The Lord of The Rings: War of the Rohirrim’s storyline somewhat ordinary or less captivating, voicing concerns about the project.

Jorge Rivera Rubio from QiiBo has rated The War of the Rohirrim 3 out of 5 on Rotten Tomatoes. He mentioned that it was a more enjoyable experience compared to the trilogy about Bilbo Baggins and the Dwarf Crusade, but significantly less impressive than Jackson’s most renowned works.

Jonathan Sim from ComingSoon shared similar thoughts as Rubio in his review of The War of the Rohirrim, stating that the film “doesn’t quite live up to its promise and offers an ordinary viewing experience.

Additionally, Leigh Paatsch from The Herald Sun pointed out that the film’s narrative lacked depth, saying, “From a storytelling perspective, it relies heavily on good-vs-evil themes without much subtlety, nuance, or intricacy to create an enduring bond with the audience.

The War of the Rohirrim’s Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores revealed

The average criticism received by The War of the Rohirrim has influenced its initial ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Currently, the film’s critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes stands at a disappointing 59%.

At Metacritic, the film currently has an average score of 57, reflecting the opinions of the initial 22 critics who reviewed it. Eight out of these critics offered positive reviews for The War of the Rohirrim, while thirteen gave mixed ratings or classified it as a negative review.

As a result, The War of the Rohirrim received a lower evaluation than Amazon Prime Video’s latest Rings of Power series. All films in Peter Jackson’s trilogy have a score above 92 on Rotten Tomatoes, but the divisive Rings of Power maintains an 84% critic rating on the same platform. Similarly, it surpasses The War of the Rohirrim on Metacritic with a commendable score of 70.
