WAR 2: Is Hrithik Roshan’s axe scene copied from Thalapathy Vijay’s Bairavaa?

The action film titled “War 2” featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR is set to hit theaters on August 14, 2025. Excitement has been building as the movie’s teaser has been revealed, but eagle-eyed viewers have noticed a fight scene involving an axe that bears a striking resemblance to one from Thalapathy Vijay’s movie, “Bairavaa.

In the trailer, Hrithik Roshan’s persona, Kabir, deftly whirls a pickaxe using his hand, much like a scene from Bairavaa where Thalapathy Vijay performs the same axe-spinning trick. This similarity has left some people questioning if it could be an imitation.

In case you haven’t heard, Bairavaa is a 2017 action-packed Tamil movie featuring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead role. This film was penned and directed by Bharathan. The plot revolves around a bank collection agent who encounters a girl during a wedding, purely by chance.

In the process of growing closer to her, Bairavaa uncovers the unfair treatment she’s experiencing at the hands of a dominant businessman. Spurred into action by his compassion, he decides to champion her cause and bring an end to this tycoon’s oppressive rule for good.

In the sequel to their 2007 project “Azhagiya Tamil Magan,” the film represented the second joint effort of the actor and director. The main character was played by Vijay, with Bairavaa boasting a diverse cast that included Keerthy Suresh, Jagapathi Babu, Daniel Balaji, Sathish, Thambi Ramaiah, Mime Gopi, Sija Rose, and numerous others in significant roles.

Bairavaa received mixed reviews upon release and is currently available for streaming on SunNXT.

It’s not clear if the identical scene in War 2 was just a coincidence or a deliberate homage to Southern films. Notably, action director ANL Arasu worked as an action choreographer on both War 2 and Bairavaa.

Discussing the upcoming movie titled “War 2”, it serves as a follow-up to the 2019 film “War” and continues the saga within the YRF Spy Universe. Hrithik Roshan returns to his character from the initial film, while Jr NTR assumes the role of the primary adversary, squaring off against him in an intense showdown.

In an intriguing turn of events, Kiara Advani will be co-starring with Hrithik in a highly anticipated film. Remarkably, this movie is scheduled for release on the same day as Rajinikanth’s Coolie, helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
