Wanda Dench ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’ Confirms Breast Cancer Diagnosis

As a fervent admirer of Wanda Dench, also known as the radiant ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’, I have always been captivated by her infectious spirit and resilience. The recent news of her breast cancer diagnosis has undeniably cast a somber shadow over her life, yet it is impossible not to be moved by her unwavering optimism.

Wanda Dench, famously known as the ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’ due to her viral moment in 2016 and closely connected with Jamal Hinton, whom she mistakenly invited to Thanksgiving dinner and later befriended, has shared a startling health update. Her revelation of having breast cancer has left many worried about her wellbeing. Here is what Dench shared regarding her health condition.

What happened to Wanda Dench, the ‘Thanksgiving Grandma’?

Dench took to social media to reveal that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer on October 16.

Instead of directly stating, “She addressed the situation with positivity, saying…” You could rephrase it as: “With optimism, she spoke about the matter, expressing, ‘At 67, I’ve still got a lot of living left to do. Fingers crossed, I hope everything turns out fine for me. I want you to understand, a longer life is something I cherish.'” This maintains the original meaning while sounding more conversational and natural.

Earlier, it came to light that she had struggled with bronchitis-related respiratory problems. Initially, doctors suspected pneumonia but further examination revealed a more severe condition instead. She was found to be free of pneumonia, however, an abnormality was detected in her breast. Without delay, a mammogram was arranged and it was discovered that she was battling Stage 1 breast cancer.

On the occasion of her 65th birthday, she remembered thinking that mammograms would no longer be necessary since breast cancer wasn’t prevalent in her family history. To her astonishment, though, she received a diagnosis for breast cancer.

Remarkably, Dench and Hinton became well-known following an unforeseen event in 2016. It happened when Dench mistakenly sent a Thanksgiving dinner invitation text to Hinton, believing she was messaging her grandson. However, due to a change in phone numbers, the message ended up being delivered to Hinton instead. As Dench explained, she had been intending to contact her grandson, but wasn’t aware of the number switch.

Following the receipt of the message, Hinton showed a degree of doubt but ultimately agreed to the invitation. He subsequently shared these exchanges on social platforms, sparking widespread interest in his special friendship with Dench. From that point forward, they grew closer and it is said that they would regularly exchange invitations for holiday festivities.
