It may still be a while before DC fans get to see the DCU Waller series.
In the year 2023, James Gunn unveiled several upcoming DC Universe films and television productions. Among these projects was a spin-off series for The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker, which goes by the title “Waller”, centering around the character of Amanda Waller, portrayed by Viola Davis.
Since then, several other DCU projects have moved ahead, with Creature Commandos already out and Superman set to hit theaters in July. However, there hasn’t been much news regarding Waller.
Per Variety, Gunn has now given an update on the Waller show.
What is the update for the DCU Waller series?
In my perspective, Gunn hinted that Waller’s journey leading up to production hasn’t been smooth sailing. As per Variety’s write-up, we’re still trying to find that perfect script that will bring our show to life.
Christal Henry has been chosen to both write and oversee production for the series, with Gunn and Peter Safran additionally taking on the role of executive producers. Furthermore, it was revealed that Henry and Jeremy Carver will jointly manage the show as its co-executive producers.
Originally, it was planned for Waller to appear in 2024, but the production got postponed in 2023. As a result, Peacemaker Season 2 took priority over Waller’s appearance.
Back in 2023, Gunn expressed his thoughts about the show as follows: “The series focuses on Amanda Waller, portrayed by Viola Davis. Alongside Team Peacemaker members, Viola Davis will collaborate in this captivating tale. The script is penned by Christal Henry, known for Watchmen, and Jeremy Carver, creator of Doom Patrol. This extraordinary story, unlike anything else, promises to astonish audiences.
As for Waller, no specific launch date has been disclosed so far. On the other hand, it’s anticipated that Season 2 of Peacemaker will debut in August 2025. Currently, you can catch both seasons of Peacemaker and Gunn’s The Suicide Squad movie on Max.
