This week was significant for Nintendo, as it marked merely the second occasion in its history that a Nintendo Store has opened in the United States. The grand opening of Nintendo San Francisco took place on Thursday, and Shacknews was among the lucky ones who were invited to explore the store. We had the opportunity to inspect every nook and cranny of this unique retailer to see what it has to offer.
At the Nintendo San Francisco store, you’ll often find items with a consistent motif. This motif showcases popular Nintendo characters walking together in unison, symbolizing harmony. You’ll spot this design adorning the exterior walls, guiding visitors towards the store entrance, and merchandise displaying this design can be found near the main entrances.
You can find Mario and his companions displayed prominently at the store entrance. They have an entire area filled with Mario-themed apparel, home goods, and unique trinkets that you won’t find everywhere else. Some of these items even showcase art not commonly found in standard Mario merchandise. Explore to discover sections dedicated to Mario, Yoshi, Princess Peach, and Donkey Kong.
Heading towards the store’s rear area, you’ll find a complete section dedicated to Animal Crossing. True to the series, plenty of the products are home decor items for fans to use in customizing their homes, mirroring those created in the Animal Crossing universe. Additionally, there are clothing and plush toys on offer. Don’t forget to check out the unique Dodo Airlines attire!
In the far part of the store, you’ll discover a section dedicated to Nintendo Switch games, hardware, and accessories. Additionally, there’s an interactive station where customers can craft their own customized Nintendo Switch OLED system. You have two options for the dock color (black or white), followed by a selection of various colors available for each Joy-Con and wrist strap. Your personalized Switch OLED will be prepared and ready for purchase by the end of the day’s shopping. For now, this service is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch OLED; no news has been released regarding the customization of the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
In the lower area of the store lies an expansive collection dedicated to The Legend of Zelda. Beyond typical merchandise like clothing and stuffed toys, you’ll discover unique office supplies, collectible items, and even small knick-knacks.
Circling the ground level in a counter-clockwise direction, it’s noticeable that the shelf area dedicated to Metroid is relatively limited. However, as Metroid Prime 4 gets closer to its release, one might anticipate an expansion of this space. Near Samus, on the other hand, there’s a larger Kirby section brimming with clothing, plush toys, and assorted items.
In the back corner near Kirby’s spot, you’ll discover a spacious zone dedicated to Pokemon. Here, you can pick out your preferred plush toys, backpacks, apparel items, statues, home decor, and an assortment of other goodies. Some of these items are unique to the Nintendo Store, while others are hard-to-find items typically exclusive to international Pokemon Center locations.
Heading toward the central part, you’ll find the Pikmin section. Filled with apparel, plush toys, figurines, and planters, it can transform your home and garden into a fascinating expedition landscape.
At the far end of the shop, you’ll find merchandise related to Splatoon. This is where you can discover unique plushies of characters, decals, water bottles, and many other items. A lot of it bears the Splatoon Crossing label, which gives it a trendy street vibe, preparing you for your upcoming Splatfest event.
Ultimately, you’ll find the demo zone for Nintendo Switch games tucked away in the far corner. This area is also home to an extensive Amiibo collection. The Amiibo display showcases nearly every released Amiibo figure, including rare ones such as Cloud and Sephiroth, Metroid Dread, The Legend of Zelda series, and many more.
The Nintendo shop situated in downtown San Francisco’s Union Square area is now accessible to all members of the public.
