Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun cast in Zellner Brother’s alien invasion comedy Alpha Gang

As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for spotting patterns and trends in the entertainment industry, I must say that the casting of Steven Yeun in the upcoming alien comedy “Alpha Gang” is nothing short of exhilarating! With his diverse acting background, ranging from the gritty apocalypse of “The Walking Dead” to the tender post-apocalyptic romance of “Love Me,” Yeun seems to have found a perfect fit for this quirky, out-of-this-world project.

According to Variety, it was announced that Steven Yeun, an Oscar nominee and multiple award-winner (Golden Globe and Emmy), will star alongside Dave Bautista, Zoë Kravitz, Léa Seydoux, Riley Keough, and Channing Tatum in the upcoming alien comedy “Alpha Gang,” directed by the Zellner Brothers. Previously announced for this project was two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, who will also produce the film. This lineup promises to be quite impressive!

The narrative revolves around a band of extraterrestrials tasked with attacking Earth. They conceal themselves among humans by adopting the image of a 1950s motorcycle gang, known as the Alpha Gang, who are leather-clad bikers. However, despite their mission-focused demeanor, they ultimately fall prey to humanity’s most destructive trait: emotional entanglements.

The Zellner siblings have gained recognition for their latest Sundance hit, “Sasquatch Sunset,” a blend of adventure and comedy that chronicles the lives of a Sasquatch family over the course of a year. Starring Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Christophe Zajac-Denek, and Nathan Zellner, this movie can be found on Amazon Prime Video. Mike Gioulakis will handle the cinematography for the film; he’s a renowned cameraman who has worked with Jordan Peele, M. Night Shyamalan, and previously with the Zellners on “Sasquatch Sunset.

Alien Gang is expected to begin filming in Spring 2025.

Steven Yeun best known and recent roles

Yeun made a name for himself starring in The Walking Dead as mild-mannered Glenn Rhee, a role he played from the first season until his death during the season 7 premiere episode. His character’s brutal death turned many people away from the series. In 2021, he became the voice of Mark Grayson/Invincible in Robert Kirkman’s adult animated Invincible, a role he has continued into the series’ fourth season.

I’m ecstatic to share that I made history as the first Asian American actor nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, thanks to my exceptional performance in the film “Minari.” Not only that, but I received acclaim for my work in the suspenseful movie “Burning.” In the Netflix original series “Beef,” I had the pleasure of acting alongside the remarkable Ali Wong. This show brought me two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe Award.

2024 saw him acting alongside Kristen Stewart, as well as Sam and Andy Zuchero, in their first directorial endeavor titled “Love Me“. This post-apocalyptic love story unfolds as a buoy and a satellite, who meet online, develop feelings for each other after humanity has vanished. The narrative is presented from the perspective of artificial intelligence.

Following this, Steven Yeun will take on a role in Bong Joon-ho’s upcoming sci-fi dark comedy titled “Mickey7.” This film is adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel and features an impressive cast including Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo. The release date for the movie in South Korea is set for January 28, 2025, with a U.S. premiere following on January 31, 2025.
