Walking Dead's Lauren Ridloff and husband Douglas experience horrific incident in Italy

As a dedicated gamer and avid follower of the entertainment industry, I was shocked and saddened to hear about the shooting incident that took place at the Deaf International Festival in Italy during Lauren Ridloff and Douglas’s attendance. I can only imagine the terror and chaos they must have experienced being so close to the scene, just moments after enjoying a performance.

At the Deaf International Festival in Italy on July 14, Lauren Ridloff and her husband Douglas were present when gunshots rang out at the Ariston Hotel. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the Walking Dead and Eternals actress and her spouse shared their firsthand account of the incident on social media.

After Douglas performed a poetry piece on stage at the hotel’s auditorium, a shooting took place only two performances later. The security detail of Ridloff, who was responsible for the couple’s safety, swiftly escorted them out of the auditorium due to their proximity to an exit.

The security team was commendably praised by all for their prompt response, and Ridloff expressed her deep gratitude to them in a Instagram post. In her post, she described the unexpected turmoil as “unfathomable panic and chaos” that erupted in the crowded theater. The image below shows the Ridloffs happily seated in the front row, taking in the performances, mere moments before the gunshots rang out.

I was lucky enough to be in the vicinity of an exit during the chaotic situation at the gaming event. As I huddled in a dimly lit and enclosed space, waiting for all clear signals from security, my heart pounded with fear. Every sound echoed in the silence, making me more alert and on edge. But I was grateful for every second spent there, knowing it increased our chances of making it out safely.

As a passionate gamer and member of the international deaf community, I’m thrilled to share that the Deaf International Festival is an exciting event I look forward to every year. Hosted by the dynamic Deaf International Party, this gathering aims to spread happiness and foster unity among us, the global deaf community.

Recently, a tragic incident overshadowed the event as it left three people severely injured, one of them critical, and caused great distress to numerous others. Il Mattino newspaper reported that a heated argument ensued between three members of the Deaf Bones Motorcycle gang and two brothers. In the course of the altercation, one of the brothers brandished a gun and discharged it thirteen times, hitting the three individuals with bullets. The hunt for the perpetrator was ongoing at the time of publication.

As a huge fan, I can’t help but admire Ridloff’s remarkable acting skills. She has made history by bringing Connie to life in “The Walking Dead,” and making her mark as the first deaf superhero, Makkari, in Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Eternals.”

Douglas Ridloff is a talented artist who expresses poetry and tells stories through American Sign Language (ASL), which he has created himself. Additionally, he lends his expertise as an ASL consultant on various films and television shows such as “A Quiet Place 1 & 2,” “Marvel’s Eternals,” “Saturday Night Live,” “Hawkeye,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “Marvel’s Echo.”
