As a fan who adores the versatility and charm of Dan Fogler, I am absolutely thrilled to see him take on yet another captivating role! His journey from the small screen to the stage with “The Boy Who Loved Batman” is truly inspiring. It’s fascinating to delve into the behind-the-scenes world of Batman’s filmmaking history, and I can hardly wait to witness Fogler’s portrayal of Michael E. Uslan.
Dan Fogler, an actor, comedian, and writer, is widely recognized for his parts in “Balls of Fury” and “Fantastic Beasts,” as well as his character Luke on “The Walking Dead.” Fogler has now landed his next role, stepping from the screen to the stage in “The Boy Who Loved Batman.”
The play is inspired by the memoir of Michael E. Uslan, who has been involved in every Batman movie, starting with Tim Burton’s in 1989 and movies related to Batman like Joker and Justice League. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, this connection can be traced back to a deal from 1979 when Uslan and Benjamin Melnicker, a former MGM executive, acquired the film rights for Batman. At that time, Warner Bros. did not see any potential in this property.
The story is an inspirational comedy that begins in New Jersey then onto Hollywood, where the Batman comic books become movie sensations.
The Boy Who Loved Batman will be presented at Straz Center for the Performing Arts in the Jaeb Theater in Tampa, Florida, from October 1 – November 10. The play by Asa Somers is directed by Tony winner Jeff Calhoun (Newsies), with scenic design by Daniel Allen, projection design by Caite Hevner, lighting design by Mike Wood, sound design by Jeremy Douglass, and costume design by Newt Rametta.
In this production, Fogler takes on the character of Uslan, alongside Paul Adam Schaefer who recently wrapped up his run in The Phantom Of the Opera on Broadway, playing the role of the Imaginary Friend. Katherine Yacko is cast as Uslan’s wife Nancy. Kelly Bashar, Nicholas Perez-Hoop, and Hugh Timoney each assume various roles, including members of Uslan’s family, Bill Finger, Stan Lee, and others.
Great Day Live hosted Fogler and Uslan for a chat about his memoir and upcoming play.
