As a seasoned gamer who has seen his fair share of thrilling narratives unfold, I eagerly await the release of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” on Netflix. Having binge-watched the first season of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” I can’t help but be intrigued by this chilling true crime series that seems to have struck a nerve with viewers.
2022 saw Netflix debut the initial installment of a true crime biographical series by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, titled “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story“. Come September, they’ll be releasing the second season, entitled “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story“. Former stars of The Walking Dead, Dallas Roberts and Jason Butler Harner, have been enlisted for this series.
1. The initial season of the show garnered a mix of positive and negative feedback yet proved incredibly popular overall. It delved into the gruesome tale of Dahmer, a well-known serial killer, vividly portraying his murder spree, trial, and eventual demise. Given its unprecedented success, it’s not surprising that they’ve produced another installment. Notably, Dahmer managed to amass 1 billion views within the first 60 hours of release, a feat matched by only three other series.
Murphy and Brennen are back to tackle a well-known case from the ’90s that stirred national interest – the Menendez brothers’ case. The brothers, Lyle and Erik, stand accused of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty, in their Beverly Hills residence in 1989. This crime was so startling it seemed almost unrealistic. On the night of August 20, 1989, the Menendez brothers entered their Beverly Hills home and ended up fatally shooting their parents.
The probe into the identity of the murderer continued, meanwhile, as the brothers extravagantly spent their family’s wealth. With no other viable suspects, investigators started considering the brothers as prime culprits. On March 8, 1990, Lyle was apprehended and three days later Erik surrendered himself to authorities.
The tale about Monsters, specifically the Lyle and Erik Menendez case, is set to debut on Netflix on September 19th. Take a peek at the teaser video below.
