As a devoted fan, I am thrilled to see Cassady McClincy Zhang continue to expand her horizons and conquer new roles. Her journey from the apocalyptic world of “The Walking Dead” to the gritty streets of the 1990s East Bay punk scene in “Out Comes the Wolves” is a testament to her versatility as an actress.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cassady McClincy Zhang, known for her role as Lydia in ‘The Walking Dead’ (seasons 9-11), has been chosen for her next acting project. This time, she will appear in the independent film titled “Out Comes the Wolves.
In a novel twist, “Out Comes the Wolves” marks the directorial venture of producer Danny Peykoff, renowned for his contributions to Kevin Costner’s “Horizon” series and the short film titled “Kenobi: A Star Wars Fan Film”. The narrative is a collaborative effort between Peykoff and writers Jason and Jamie Neese, who have also lent their talents to shows like “The Umbrella Academy” and “Cruel Summer”. This production is backed by Big New Port Studios, which is under the leadership of Peykoff himself. Filming for this project has recently started in Portland, Oregon.
McClincy Zhang, along with Orlando Norman, Spence Moore II, and Heidi Grace Engerman, have been added to the already announced cast which includes Sam Rechner, West Mulholland, and Curran Walters.
The narrative unfolds within the ’90s punk culture of the East Bay, drawing inspiration from Rancid’s “…And Out Come the Wolves” album.
Set against the East Bay punk music scene in the mid 1990s, Wolves is a story of grit and dreams in a world of violence and desperation. Norman, Moore, Engerman and Zhang play a tight-knit group of high school friends vying to escape the blighted city in which they live. Getting away isn’t so easy, however, when the streets are full of metaphorical predators and prophets at every turn and the story, following the teens, will ask who manages to get away and who will be devoured when the wolves come out to hunt.
Cassady McClincy Zhang – other roles
Supporters of “The Walking Dead” often recall McClincy fondly due to her portrayal of Lydia. Initially, Lydia was a troubled teenage character who ultimately discovered her belonging within the primary group.
2023 saw Deadline reveal that McClincy Zhang had been selected for another independent film titled “The Snare“. This movie marks the directorial first from Merlin Camoizzi based on his own script, which was shot in Schenectady, NY. In this production, McClincy Zhang portrays Dani, a seemingly innocent girl who finds herself in trouble with the law after being caught with a minimal amount of drugs. She is then faced with the choice to work as an informant for the police alongside Dempsey Bryk, Lucy Walters, Royce Johnson, Elizabeth Stahlmann, Esther Zyskind, and Dominic Bogart.
She made an appearance in the two-season show titled “Lore,” which had a cast that included Robert Patrick, Jake Kearney, Steve Coulter, Alicia Witt, and several other actors from The Walking Dead. This series can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, Gale Anne Hurd served as an executive producer, Michael E. Satrazemis directed episodes, and Stephen Campbell was the cinematographer for this show, before his passing.
Apart from being recognized for these roles, she’s famed in various productions like “Do Revenge,” “Castle Rock,” “Poor Jane,” “Love, Simon,” and “Ozark” – just to name a few.
Besides being exceptional, McClincy Zhang is a gifted vocalist who has demonstrated her abilities before. Notably, in the year 2022, she graced the stage at Georgia’s top jazz club, The Velvet Note in Alpharetta, holding two captivating shows.
