Walking Dead and Euphoria actor Austin Abrams' new projects, Penelope, The Line, and more

As a seasoned gamer who’s seen it all, from apocalyptic zombie worlds to high school dramas, I can confidently say that 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year for entertainment, especially with Austin Abrams gracing our screens in multiple projects.

2024 sees a busy schedule for actor Austin Abrams, who gained fame as Ron Anderson on seasons 5 and 6 of “The Walking Dead.” Besides this role, he has appeared in “Euphoria,” “Dash & Lily,” and “Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark.” On September 24, catch Abrams alongside Megan Stott in the Netflix drama “Penelope,” a coming-of-age story.

Penelope – Netflix September 24, 2024

The eight-episode series titled “Penelope” was developed by Duplass Brothers Productions (DBP) and conceived by Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn. They collaborated on the script during the pandemic period. The pilot episode of this independently financed production debuted at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. In addition to being the president of DBP, Eslyn is also serving as the showrunner and director for the series, with Jay Duplass, brother of Mark Duplass, and Shuli Harel as executive producer.

In this production, Stott depicts the protagonist, a 16-year-old who struggles to find her place in today’s society. Drawn towards the unexplored wilderness, Penelope sets out to create a fresh existence for herself. Abrams portrays Sam alongside Krisha Fairchild (known from Krisha, Channel Zero, and Freeland) as Helena; and Rhenzy Feliz (recognized from The Penguin, All Together Now, and Encanto) as Peter.

In this heartfelt tale, the protagonist embarks on a personal journey of growth and discovery as she creates a new path for herself, blending the challenges of survival and the experiences of growing up.

Wolfs – AppleTV+ on September 27, 2024

In the upcoming action comedy titled “Wolfs,” due to release soon, Daniel Abrams will join forces with George Clooney and Brad Pitt. Their roles depict solitary trouble-shooters who are brought in to conceal wrongdoings. Somehow, they both end up being hired for the same task, which forces their longstanding adversaries to collaborate unwillingly. The intrigue deepens when it’s discovered that the corpse they were supposed to dispose of, played by Abrams, is actually alive, making the situation even more complex.

The film will make its first appearance at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 10. Following a week-long limited cinema run starting from September 20, it will officially launch on AppleTV+ on September 27. As per Deadline, the movie’s sequel is being developed with Clooney and Pitt set to reprise their roles.

The Line – October 18, 2024

This autumn, I’ll be gracing the screen in “The Line,” a compelling drama written and directed by Ethan Berger, along with Alex Russek. In this captivating tale, I play Tom, a scholarship student who’s drawn into the allure of social status and connections through the KNA fraternity. As I navigate the complexities of a blossoming romance and the cunning machinations of the frat president, I find myself torn between ambition and loyalty. The film boasts an impressive cast including Alex Wolff, Lewis Pullman, Halle Bailey, Austin Abrams (yes, me!), Angus Cloud, Bo Mitchell, Denise Richards, Cheri Oteri, Scoot McNairy, and John Malkovich.

Weapons – January 16, 2026

2026 sees actor Abrams featured in the horror movie titled “Weapons.” This film is penned, steered, and co-produced by Zach Cregger. Notably, Cregger has previously worked on the horror film “Barbarian,” which features Bill Skarsgård, Georgina Campbell, and Justin Long in lead roles. The upcoming movie, “Weapons,” is set in a Florida community and focuses on several interconnected stories surrounding missing school children during the night. Alongside Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael, Abrams takes on a role in this production.
