Emily ends up with Marcello in Emily in Paris season 4 part 2

Following their disagreement during their ski trip over Christmas, Emily and Gabriel decided to part ways, which is a difficult pill for many fans who had eagerly anticipated the show’s conclusion. Many viewers had rooted for Emily with Alfie, but there were equally as many (including this writer) who favored Emily with Gabriel. Witnessing their fleeting romantic connection disintegrate so swiftly is heartbreaking to observe.

Emily starts seeing Marcello and it is he whom she ultimately ends up with by the end of season 4. They first cross paths in episode 6 of season 4, when he helps her after a skiing accident. A few episodes later, they encounter each other again at a polo game, where Emily discovers there might be potential for professional collaboration between them. However, she is drawn to Marcello on a personal level rather than for any business prospects.

Despite Sylvie encouraging Emily to visit Rome for business purposes, meeting Marcello’s family’s company as a client, Emily instead decides to take a personal trip to spend time with Marcello in Rome. She indulges in a Lizzie McGuire-esque experience, cruising the city on the back of his scooter. This romantic outing is an idyllic continuation of their enchanting first encounter. (To be fair, it seems Emily has won divine favor.)

Sylvie transforms Emily’s leisurely trip into a work assignment in Rome, aiming to secure the Muratori account directly. This leaves Marcello doubting Emily’s motives and putting their trust to the test. Was she merely trying to win him over for business purposes? Not at all! It can be frustrating as an advocate for Emily that these men are frequently doubting her character. She, in fact, is a sincere and benevolent individual!

Wait, is Marcello actually Emily's best boyfriend in Emily in Paris?

Marcello might be Emily’s Mr. Right

It’s fortunate that Marcello recognizes his mistake and realizes Emily isn’t someone who would manipulate him. Her emotions are sincere, which adds to the thrill when he visits her at her doorstep after relocating to Rome for work, offering to tour the city with her once more. Seeing her content with her destination and partner is what truly fits her.

For the first time, Emily is in a smooth-sailing relationship. Although Emily and Marcello experienced a minor disagreement regarding work, they resolved it maturely without letting it escalate into an ongoing issue. Marcello does not burden Emily with unnecessary complications and communicates effectively with her, something she felt was lacking with Gabriel. Additionally, Marcello is understanding about Emily’s language barriers.

As I’ve previously expressed, my wish is for Emily and Gabriel to be a couple. In an earlier piece, I even hinted at the possibility of Gabriel proposing in the second part. (Little did I know how misguided I was barely a month ago!) However, I could have never anticipated that the writers of “Emily in Paris” would save such a charismatic, handsome, and near-perfect character as Marcello for later. Bravo to them!

In an unexpected twist, it seems that Marcello could have been a challenge for Emily and Gabriel, yet he turns out to be the best boyfriend she’s had on the show so far. I never anticipated this turn of events. Initially, I was ready to stand by Gabriel until the end, but Marcello has won me over. As a viewer, my main interest in Emily in Paris is Emily’s happiness, and it appears that she doesn’t have to make sacrifices for happiness with Marcello. While there may be future conflicts ahead in season 5, for now, things are looking good between them.

In simpler terms, Gabriel can only regain Emily’s affection when he visits Rome to ask her for another chance, if he truly listens to her concerns about his past actions and works to rectify them. He wasn’t a perfect partner due to the challenging circumstances with Camille, but now he must listen to Emily and make amends. Until Gabriel demonstrates this change, Marcello is free to pursue Emily’s affections.
