Visions of Mana has the makings of a magical RPG adventure

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of JRPG adventures under my belt, I must say that Visions of Mana has rekindled my love for this timeless series. The bond between Val and Hinna is reminiscent of the heartwarming friendships forged in classic RPGs like Final Fantasy Tactics or Chrono Cross.

The game “Visions of Mana” is the latest addition to the JRPG series, released after more than a decade. It offers a fresh narrative starring an extraordinary group of characters. Similar to its predecessors, it emphasizes action combat. Moreover, players can customize their character’s performance in battle by choosing weapons and gear. Before the complete launch of “Visions of Mana”, I embarked on my adventure to the World Tree and am eagerly looking forward to exploring more of the game’s storyline.

In Visions of Mana, you quickly grow fond of the main characters, Val and Hinna, as no time is wasted in establishing their connection. When your old friend Hinna gets chosen to become the new Alm, destined to journey to the World Tree, you find yourself assuming the role of a Soul Guard, accompanying her on this perilous trip for her protection. From their very first encounter, it’s evident that they share a deep past, and their unique personalities soon come to light.

On my adventure, I experienced the real-time battle system in the most recent version of the Mana series. In this setup, exploration blends effortlessly into combat as soon as you come close to an enemy. You control just one character at a time, while AI allies will attack and support as needed. If a fight isn’t wanted, players can step back towards the battle area’s edge to avoid it.

Following the acquisition of an Ability Seed, I managed to arm Val with a Fireball spell for combat usage. These seeds can be assigned to diverse party members and obtained either through exploration or character advancement. Once the seed was allocated to Val, I placed it on my quick access wheel, streamlining its deployment in fights. The shortcut menu has limited spaces, thus necessitating players to strategize and carefully plan their loadouts.

As a passionate fan, I must say that the battle system in Visions of Mana offers an incredible variety, with jumps, dodges, regular attacks, and spells all playing their part. I found myself stringing together combos that kept me aloft for extended periods, while also getting into a groove by anticipating enemy attack patterns and skillfully dodging them. Remarkably, even though I’m typically drawn to the turn-based combat in JRPGs, Visions of Mana has managed to captivate me with its unique approach to combat – it’s simply a blast!

As a longtime fan of the Mana series, I was thrilled to get my hands on the latest installment. With its vibrant colors and enhanced visuals, Square Enix has successfully married the classic look of the Mana series with modern aesthetics that truly pop. The game runs smoothly on my PC, but I couldn’t help but notice that the cutscenes are capped at 30 frames per second, which was a bit jarring compared to the seamless gameplay. Nevertheless, the familiar art style remains intact, bringing back fond memories of my youth spent playing these games. Overall, I’m excited to see where this new installment takes the Mana series and can’t wait to explore its world further.

As a passionate gamer, I can’t help but be captivated by the solid groundwork that Visions of Mana lays down for an unforgettable JRPG journey. The focus on intricate character interactions and strategic combat keeps me hooked from the get-go, and the graphical upgrades promise this will be the most visually stunning installment in the series yet. It’s been a long wait for devoted fans like myself, but Square Enix seems to be making all the right moves to meet our high expectations.
