Vintage Comicbook Collection Recovered from Storage Facility Robbery

According to the Calgary Herald, a Canadian comic book collector is grateful to have retrieved his stolen collection. The culprit behind the theft was apprehended by the police, who subsequently discovered the stolen comic books.

Heath McCoy would often escape the chaos of being a teenager in the world of comic books.

When he discovered his prized possessions were taken towards the end of last year, he expressed that it was similar to receiving a strong blow to his stomach.

On Friday, police charged a suspect in the theft.

McCoy’s passion for collecting comic books lasted all the way up to his 20th year. His fondness for these comics was so deep that he aspired to be a comic book author. Eventually, he landed a job at the Calgary Herald, working as an entertainment reporter.

On December 23rd, a collection of comics belonging to McCoy, as well as belongings from other individuals, were stolen from Sentinel storage located in the community of Mayland Heights. However, it wasn’t until a week later that the storage company informed McCoy about this incident.

[…] The books weren’t just sentimentally important to McCoy, who reminisced about his childhood being centered around them by saying, “My entire childhood revolved around comic books,” but financially speaking, they were worth several thousand dollars.

“He must have had some inkling . . . that he better sell them off individually,” he added.

But upon the arrest of the suspect, police found three boxes containing comic books that date as far back as 40 years.

It’s fortunate that his collection was preserved. In my opinion, if he decides to give them up someday, it would be best for him to donate them to a museum. After all, items like these should be accessible for everyone to appreciate in an authentic exhibition at a historical archive. Collectors of vintage comics might want to reflect on the idea that the speculation market isn’t everything.
