As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement about the newest addition to Kollywood’s star-studded lineup – none other than Vijay Sethupathi’s son, Surya! This promising talent is set to make his grand debut in the upcoming film, Phoenix. As a sports action drama in Tamil, this movie is directed by the talented Anl Arasu and boasts an impressive cast including Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and the esteemed Sampath Raj in leading roles. I can hardly wait to witness Surya’s entry into the world of cinema!
Lately, the newcomer actor has disclosed the bodily change he went through for his first movie, especially given that it involves intense action sequences.
Surya talks about being overweight before Phoenix
During a chat on Zoom, the newcomer actor disclosed that he previously weighed approximately 120 kg but needed to lose weight for his role in Phoenix. To achieve a leaner body, he spent about 1.5 years getting into shape again.
He shared that prior to the film’s screening, he weighed approximately 120 kg. It took him about one and a half years to shed those pounds. During this weight loss journey, he also picked up MMA, which plays a crucial role in the movie.
Surya cut down on oil and sugar for his transformation
In the same disclosure, Surya mentioned that, along with learning MMA skills, he needed to modify his eating habits substantially. This meant reducing his consumption of sugar and oil considerably.
Initially, the child of the star found it incredibly challenging to stick to this routine, but over time, he got used to it, making things less demanding for him.
Surya recalls how he landed his debut film
As the conversation continued during the interview, Surya went on to tell the story behind him receiving his first film offer. Reflecting back, he remembered visiting his father, Vijay Sethupathi, while he was working on the set of his movie called Jawan. It was there that director Anl Arasu noticed him.
As an ardent admirer, I recall the moment when Anl Arasu sir noticed me. He shared Phoenix’s captivating tale with my father, expressing his desire to collaborate with me on a movie. My father graciously conceded, stating that the decision was mine. After three eventful days, I made up my mind and gave my approval. That marked the beginning of an incredible journey.
For the unversed, Phoenix will be hitting the big screens on July 4, 2025.
