C Prem Kumar reveals he wanted to make 96 in Hindi with Abhishek Bachchan
At a recent gathering, C Prem Kumar disclosed that his beloved film, titled “96”, was initially penned for Hindi and he had aspirations of casting Abhishek Bachchan in it. He expressed, “I feel bold enough now to admit that 96 was essentially crafted for Hindi. I aimed to propose this project to Abhishek Bachchan, but unfortunately, I lacked the necessary connections or a way to get in touch with him.
In an overwhelmingly enthusiastic tone, I exclaim, “Naturally, it unfolded beautifully in Tamil, and what made it even more extraordinary was having my cherished friend, Vijay Sethupathi, backing the project. It truly was a moment to remember!
C Prem Kumar credits Hindi cinema for its reach and diversity of audience
Additionally, Prem Kumar explained his motivation behind creating the movie 96 in Hindi. He mentioned that while he isn’t fluent in writing or reading it, he is proficient in speaking the language. “Growing up, my father resided in North India, despite being a Tamilian. He spoke fluent Hindi and I was frequently immersed in Hindi films,” he stated.
Kumar explained that his motivation to create something significant in Hindi rather than other regional languages lies in the expansive reach of Hindi cinema. He pointed out that while Tamil or Kannada industries are limited to their respective states, Hindi cinema has a broader impact as it involves numerous states, offering a vast array of opportunities to tailor scripts for various regions and thus creating a dynamic, colorful palette.
C Prem Kumar’s desperation to remake 96 and Meiyazhagan in Hindi
In his youth, the film director fondly mentioned that Naseeruddin Shah was his favorite actor. Now, he’s penned a script in Hindi with the intention of presenting it to prominent Bollywood actors.
When queried about the possibility of re-making the Tamil film “96” in Hindi, he expressed enthusiasm and stated that not only does he wish to remake “96” in Hindi, but also his latest film, “Meiyazhagan,” in the same manner.
