As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, let me tell you that this week’s video game news has been quite the rollercoaster ride! The nominees for the Game Awards “Game of the Year” have stirred up quite a storm, and I can’t help but feel like a kid in a candy store, eagerly waiting to see who will take home the grand prize.
This week, the video gaming world is ablaze with excitement! Two fresh releases have hit the market, and there are significant updates about The Game Awards happening in December. Let’s dive right into the most noteworthy developments this week.
The Game Awards “Game of the Year” nominees
If you’ve managed to avoid all the buzz, you might not be aware of the contenders for the 2024 Game Awards “Game of the Year”. The nominees are Astro Bot, Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, and Metaphor: Refantazio.
The main topics are the upcoming expansions for “Elden Ring” and the second part of the “Final Fantasy VII” remake. Some individuals might have been disappointed by “Balatro” due to its appearance as just a card game, yet it offers much more than that. Imagine it as a roguelike, but with cards instead.
No, people have issues with a remake and a DLC being included as GOTY nominees. Are they both excellent? Yes. But if you want them nominated, maybe make new categories? Best DLC and Best Remaster/Remake? Maybe one day. We’ll see what ends up winning…
New releases this week
Initially, we discussed it a week ago, however, the Stellar Blade DLC became available on November 20. This expansion primarily offers cosmetic changes (such as outfits from NieR: Automata) and also features a photo mode. The best part? It’s completely free!
This week also sees the launch of another major title – S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, a first-person shooter survival horror game. If you’re considering purchasing this game, Gameranx offers their usual insightful “Before You Buy” article to help guide your decision.
