Video game news in review: The biggest news from the week of December 12, 2024

As an avid gamer with decades of experience under my belt, let me tell you, this week has been a rollercoaster ride! The 2024 Game Awards certainly lived up to their hype, but before we dive into that, there’s a plethora of other news that caught my attention.

This past week saw an explosive surge in video game news, largely due to the 2024 Game Awards. While we’re working on a dedicated post about that, let’s dive into the other exciting news that unfolded prior to Thursday evening!

No more Suicide Squad updates

Indeed, as many had anticipated, the game titled “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” will no longer receive any further updates starting in January. Initially scheduled for release during the winter season, this title faced numerous delays before its debut. Upon release, it garnered a mediocre response from critics and left many players feeling somewhat unimpressed.

After its debut, Rocksteady has consistently delivered on promised updates, however, following Episode 8 of Season 4, further updates won’t be forthcoming. While we expected this outcome, it’s still a bit disappointing that the game didn’t have the chance to develop into something greater.

New game releases this week

In case you didn’t notice, “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” was launched on December 10th, a Monday. Gameranx offers a helpful review before purchase, but honestly… if you’re a fan of the original Indiana Jones movie trilogy, you’ll find this game quite enjoyable. Troy Baker’s portrayal of Indy is exceptional.

Also, we missed it last week, but Marvel Rivals released on December 5, which is the team-based PVP shooter. It’s got pretty decent reviews and looks like the perfect kind of comic book fun. Again, there’s a Before You Buy if you’re interested in some feedback before you sink any time into it (it’s free to play!).

Free Astro Bot expansion

Indeed, I was thrilled to learn that the 2024 Game of the Year (GOTY) received a free expansion on December 12! However, there’s a small condition – you need to complete the main game first before diving into the expansion. But fear not, as it’s a fresh new level that makes this game even more enjoyable and suitable for all ages.

December’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalog update

Starting December 17th, PS Plus Premium members can enjoy a selection of fresh video games added to their library. Among them are titles like “Sonic Frontiers,” “Forspoken,” “Jurassic World Evolution 2,” “Coffee Talk,” and “Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy.” There’s much more, so be sure to explore the offerings if you’re a Premium member.

Cyberpunk 2.2 update

The latest update for “Cyberpunk 2077” is now available, offering 100 customizable options for your character V, improved compatibility with certain vehicle brands, and a massive revamp to their photo mode. CD Projekt Red has put in significant effort to ensure the game lives up to its potential, making this update truly impressive.
